Sunset on Max Patch

The Flame and I decided to take two of our grandchildren to Hot Springs, NC over the last weekend.  We also planned to camp one night on the top of Max Patch and watch the sunset and sunrise from the summit.  We make a regular pilgrimage to Hot Springs to put items we have made in our booth at the Iron Horse Inn Gift Shop so it was a good time to visit the mountain with the grand children.  The weather was iffy but we wanted to show Matthew and Abby the beauty from the top of the bald nob.   It has a 360 degree view from the top and it is awesome.  But the weather didn’t cooperate.  We had thunder to the north and it started to rain.  One of the lessons we learned from our thru hike on the AT is you are never caught on top of a mountain in a thunderstorm.

But time did allow us to get some great pictures from the summit.   Maybe the next trip.   Matthew and Abby did get to enjoy the creek in Hot Springs with rides on tubes in the small rapids.
